Averil joined the firm in April 2017 and is one of our partners, specialising exclusively in family law. Averil graduated from the University of Wollongong in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in psychology) and a Bachelor of Laws. After university, she spent two years working as an Associate in the then Federal Magistrate’s Court (now the Federal Circuit Court) in Melbourne. Averil then practised in Melbourne for 12 months in a boutique family law firm before she moved to Canberra. Averil has worked for several well known family law firms in Canberra in the last seven years, culminating in her joining us here at Phelps Reid Foster Johnson.
Averil’s experience ranges from dealing with parenting and child support matters, to property divisions which involve married or defacto couples, spousal maintenance, divorce, and companies and trusts. Averil also has experience in dealing with domestic violence matters in both the Magistrates and Supreme Court of the ACT. Her speciality lies in helping clients to solve their problems in a way that is pragmatic, efficient and child-focussed.
